05JunFancy Picnic Inspired Bachelorette Tablescape
I was overcome by utter laziness today, spending my day nibbling left over Danish strawberries from yesterday’s dessert and hanging on the couch on the veranda, soaking in the heat. It is so hot in Copenhagen today, and the sky is blue, blue, blue.
So I didn’t tell you the entire truth in my last post. Yes, I had been busy with the preparations for a photoshoot last Wednesday, but what I couldn’t tell you was that I was also busy with the last preparations for the surprise bachelorette party for a very dear friend. We had a glorious day yesterday, when the party finally started – the weather could not have been more perfect for what my team of fantastic girls had arranged: a brunch, a treasure hunt through the Deer Garden north of Copenhagen, a horsecarriage ride, a refreshing dip in the water at Bellevue Strand and a delicious barbecue with canapees and kebabs, and a dessert featuring a lavish, 6 layer tiramisu-style cake, served with sweet, organic, Danish strawberries.

Bachelorette parties often have a pink Sex and the City kind of theme, but I know the bride as more of an outdoorsy, adventurous, foody kind of girl. I couldn’t wait to decorate the table for the dinner which was being held at my house – I knew I wanted it to look feminine but not pink; picnic’y but still fancy.
So I took out my melamine plates in hues of lavender, violet, turquoise and pastel green, a lavender, linen table throw and bought polka-dotted and gingham patterned napkins. And, beautiful, white peonies in full bloom, dotted with purple and cobolt blue flowers I found in the garden. Mercury glass candle holders and champagne flutes, even for those of us drinking elderflower drinks instead of wine or cider because, well, it’s a little bit more glamorous that way.

I strung garlands from the ceiling that I had made of tissue paper in matching colours – I wanted them to look like confetti hanging in the air

One of my favourite details, is the glass tags. Knowing that we would be in and out of the house a lot, that the glasses would be placed on different tables while moving between the grilling area, the kitchen where we were preparing salad, the veranda and of course the dining room, I bought light blue luggage cards to be used as name tags which the guests could write their names on and tie onto the stems of the flutes.

I’m really quite pleased with how pretty the table turned out, and I can’t stop touching the fluffy peonies. I really do hope they will last for a while.

Oh my. Your table is amazing. Seriously adorable
How sweet a friend are you.. That’s the kind of bacelorette party I dream of having! Beautyful tablesetting…
