I have been so, so excited to announce this contest! Remember Annelie Johansson, who photographed this lovely, unique and earth friendly wedding? Well, one of you very lucky brides has the chance to win her to capture your wedding day + a pre-wedding shoot.
About the photographer:
Annelie comes from Sweden, and describes herself as the following:
I love contrast, shadows, tilted frames, dynamic backgrounds and my style is always changing, always evolving with each client. I won’t slap you into a photo that doesn’t suit your personality – I aim to create a unique style on every shoot that matches each clients individuality. I want you to feel something when you look at my photos. If I can do that, I’ve succeeded.
I’m here to take beautiful photos of beautiful things in life and share it with those who appreciate the true art of photography. I appreciate the decision that someone makes when they choose me to be with them on their special day.
Sounds pretty good, don’t you think?
The fabulous prize:
♥ Annelie will capture your full wedding day – from the morning preparations to the party.
♥ You will even get to meet Annelie before your big day, as the prize includes a 2 hour pre-wedding shoot (or engagement shoot, or love shoot, if you will).
♥ From the wedding, you will receive 350-450 images in full high-resolution files on DVD, as well as prints of the best ones gathered in an Asuka album.
♥ The pre-wedding shoot will result in about 50 images and a small Asuka album with the best images.
How to enter:
We like to promote individuality and creativity, so simply leave a comment on this post, describing how your wedding will stand out. Will you be having a beach wedding? A farm or 70s inspired wedding? Are you a same-sex couple, or perhaps a multicultural couple?
The contest will end on Sunday, the 15th of January, where the winner will be picked by Annelie.
Please note: Only couples living in Denmark, Sweden, Norway or Finland can enter the contest. The wedding must be planned for 2012 or 2013. The photographer retains the right to have the images published on websites, blogs and magazines, including Pretty Chic Blog.
Right – we simply can’t wait to drool over your wedding – get going, and tell us what makes your wedding a reflection of you!

Wow – what an opportunity.I hope that by placing this comment, I will be entering the competition?
My boyfriend and I are celebrating ourselves and our love June 30 – and we are currently VERY much looking for a talented photographer! The package would therefore be HIGHLY appreciated.
And now to our wedding. We are planning and planning and planning – and right now a lot of it are thoughts, but they are starting to come together. Hopefully it will be a great Danish summer day – where the grass and the trees are green and beautiful – the birds are singing and everybody smiling <3 Just like in the movies ;)
The wedding will be taking place in my hometown – Grindsted Church (where my parents got married, where I had my confirmation, and so on and so forth), and the party will be held in my parents garden, in a very nice and romantic multi pavilion tent – with nice round curves surrounding us. (I would attach a picture of the garden and the area around it if I could). It is very important to us that all the guests feel natural and loose, and that they will be enjoying themselves. We have the funniest and greatest friends and family – so we are pretty sure that that part is “safe” :)
My boyfriend and I love music and going to concerts – especially rock music, and we actually met at one – over a Golden Lady (Danish beer from Tuborg). Therefore that women is very important to the wedding – she will somehow be placed at the invitations – also at the wedding cake – and maybe somewhere in the tent as well.
The style and decorations in the tent will be inspired by The Nordics and the west coast (my favorite place in the world)
-Grey/Sandy table cloth and alternative plates (a plate of wood from the westcoast, a black tile, etc.)
-Flowers will be wild and “their own” (this is not a princess wedding where everything has to be beautiful and picture perfect – there is room for everyone and everything!)
-We are thinking that the table decorations will be placed in a “fish box” – maybe with lavender, thistles, various herbs, green grass – etc.
-And hopefully we will be able to place a “sky of stars” in top of the tent, so that the mood is “complete” during the dark hours.
The menu is VERY important to us. We love music, laughing, beer and FOOD! Quick comments about the food as it looks now: Fish/seafood plate with veggies and berries (in between the starter and the main course we will serve our favorite sushi from sticks’n’sushi), RED meat with seasonal vegetables on the side, and the wedding cake for dessert (a cake with tastes like red berries (DANISH ONES), licorice, white chocolate and pistachios… YUMMY. We have some surprises related to the meal – but those I have to keep to myself, as I do not know who is reading this – the midnight snack will be a Danish luxury hotdog (with our favorite toppings).
When we are done eating – we will be partying, dancing, laughing, snacking, and simply just enjoying ourselves until we drop! Maybe we will be dancing at the tables – maybe we will be swimming in the lake just by the tent – maybe we will be lying outside the tent and just staring into the clear sky (we are crossing our fingers – NO RAIN!).
I could keep on talking about the wedding – but this is all you get for now <3
However – we have so many plans – and a fairly tight budget, so we have to be very creative with everything – therefore this price could be a slot for us to do some stuff we have taken out of the wedding list.
I look forward to reading about all the other women and their wedding plans :) And hopefully you will pick us in the end!
PS: THANK YOU For an inspiring site; I love the pictures, I love the weddings, I love the ideas and DIY,and I love your recommendations (I will have my dressed made by Annia Elefteria – she is wonderful!)
Dear Anne,
Thank you so much for your comment and your kind words! Love the detail with the Golden Lady :)
And yes, by writing this comment, you have now entered the competition. All the best of luck! :)
Oh and by the way – may I recommend Shutterstock.com – in relation with DIY invitations. Very pretty designs – you buy and “manipulate” into what you want. I believe that we just found “our look” for the invitations :)
Regarding the look for the pictures from the wedding, we are searching for “not-typical” weddingpictures. A more rough look – pictures with an edge – but still vintage and nordic in the look. I am thinking a construction place catching laughing love shot – a shot in the wind in the nature (The Danish “Hede” is AMAZING!!) – no too posing pictures but happy and loose/relaxed.
I really like the colores of the pictures above… let’s mix it all up, Annelie ;)
What a great competition! Lovely pictures- and we really need a good fotographer to document and help us remember our special day!
Me and my boyfriend are getting married in Oslo, Norway, on the 28th of July 2012. Many details are yet to be planned, but we have a clear idea of what we want. First of all, the atmosphere is very important to us. This day is a special celebration with all the people we love and care about and we want it to be a day of love and fun for everyone who attends. We are hoping to create a wedding that reflects our personalities and keep the atmosphere informal and relaxed, but also keeping family traditions.
We are having an outdoor wedding ceremony, near the sea (the Oslo fjord), accompanied by acoustic gitar playing and singing. The wedding will be on Bygdøy Island on the west side of Oslo. Bygdøy has beautiful parks and forests and several beautiful beaches- that are perfect for taking wedding photos!
Our dinner will be in a big ball room at the old rowing club, with views to the sea. We might have a barbeque in the garden outside and a band playing old Sinatra songs to kick off the party after the dinner.
We would love to have a vintage feel to our wedding and have found a lot of inspiration from blogs, such as this wonderful blog. Hopefully we will also have a vintage feel to our wedding pictures. And we would love for Annelie Johansson to take our pictures! I love photography that captures the moment and Annelie seems to really know how to do that.
Thanks so much, Rebekka! Oh gosh – I looove the atmosphere a guitar gives, it’s so special and intimate (I speak from experience! :) ) You wedding sounds really beautiful, especially the location – all the best of luck! :)
..and I almost forgot: My wedding dress is from Cecilie Melli, the Norwegian designer. I have already had it made and can’t wait to wear this vintage inspired dream of a dress! ;)
Oh, thanks so much for the tip! I must check out Cecilie Melli right away! :)
Thank you, Elizabeth! We are really looking forward to this day and to be with familiy and friends to celebrate love :)
What a fantastic competition!
My boyfriend and I met 7 years ago during our last year at art school in Savannah, Georgia. After graduation, we moved out west together to Los Angeles, California. We got engaged last December. My now fiancé and I decided it was time for another change of scenery and made the giant move to his homeland…DENMARK! After the long process of moving and immigration, we have finally settle down here in Copenhagen, and it is truly starting to feel like home. After this giant cross world move, we have finally started to plan on the wedding!
Our wedding will be taking place on the 28th of July 2012. As we are still in the very early stages of planning, we do have a pretty clear vision as to what we would like. Cozy and intimate, mixing elements of Danish and my American background. We are planning to have around 45 of our closest family and friends for the dinner and party. We feel that this will truly give us more time to connect with our guests who will be traveling from all over the US.
We will be married in Helleruplund Kirke by the same priest whom married my fiancé’s 3 older sisters. He is very excited to take part in our day. The dinner and party will then take place at his parents house (which is just a short walking distance from the church-bonus!). I was envisioning candles and lights twinkling everywhere, simple flowers to add a bit of freshness, classic food served seat side, speeches galore, and an amazing band getting everyone on the dance floor (all 3 sisters had an ELVIS band!)
I am still searching for a dress. I have found some styles that I really love online and back in the States, but really need to find a great bridal boutique near me. Any suggestions?
Annelie’s photos really captures the spirit of the day that she shoots…and I hope too that she could make our day special as well.
Thanks!
Wow! this just the competition to win!!!
When I met my boyfriend 5 years ago, I just knew that he is the one and only.
We quikly moved in together in al small appartment in Copenhagen, and after only 2 years, I gave bith to our first child (we now have 2).
therefor it was no surprice to me when he on the danish island Anholt, after a 6 km walk to the lighthouse, fell on his knees and asked me to marry me.
Anholt is to me a very special place (I have been there since I was a baby), so since the engagement took place here, of couse our wedding should take place on where my boyfriend have been comeing since he was a baby. Samsø.
His family has the most special place. A half-island (dont know if that is what it is called in english but a halvø in danish) where the family summerhouse is in the middle, surounded by the most beutiful nature you can get in Denmark.
The cermony will take place in a contrychurch called Langør kirke (10 min. walk from the summerhouse), which looks over a tiny bay.
For the party we have rented a big partytent. The plan is to have no electric light and in sted fill it up with ALOT of candels in jellyjaws (wich will also be used as vases).
Ourside we will fill the trees with candels and flags.
The dacefloor will also be placed outside.
I already bought my outfit, wich will include a long laceweddingdress imbroded with small pearls, and on my head I will be wearing my Jannie Baltzer headpiece.
The key word for our wedding will be:
Cousy (hyggeligt)
Love
Vintage
Country
And last but not least. Thank you SOOOO much for this AMAZING blog. Im in here at least once a day! :)
xoxo Kirstine
Hi Kristine,
When is your wedding day? I think you forgot to write it down.
Many thanks,
Annelie
Uhhh so sorry. Just had so much that I wanted to write! ;)
It’s on the 7th of July 2012.
Hi :)
This is a great competition! :)
Nearly seven years ago, I met my boyfriend, best friend and future husband Thomas. I was in no doubt that it was him who I should live my life with. His warm voice, humor, compassion, creativity and charm – he just had to be mine.
I was young, shy and charmed but certainly not in doubt.
We’re getting married this summer, 28th July 2012.
We have chosen to have an intimate casual wedding just for close friends and family.
Since we both grew up in Jutland, Denmark (now we live in Copenhagen), we wanted to find a beautiful, relaxed and countries anywhere in Jutland where we could get married.
After a long search we found the perfect place! It is an old timbered watermill which is converted into a restaurant. The place is so beautiful! It’s in the middle of a forest – and the place is surrounded by a small lake.
Since we both are not religious, we have chosen not to get married in a church, however, we have been allowed to be married in the woods besides the lake. During the ceremony, Thomas’s friend promised to sing and play the guitar. We hope it’ll be so nice, lovely and informal.
The entire day will take place at, and around the old watermill. Dinner will be simple and rustic. Thomas’s grandfather will make the wedding cake. It’s so sweet! He is already practicing.
We are still looking for a band. Some jazz or something like that. But certainly something you can dance to – because we all love to dance.
My wedding dress – I’ve been with my mother in London to look for wedding dress. I found the perfect dress, in a delicate gray, beautiful dress by Jenny Packham (Eden). It has a simple silhouette, with so many small fine details. My grandmother who makes lace is started making the prettiest lace ribbon for my bouquet.
Thomas has not yet found his clothes – but he talks about something in a dusty gray-blue or blue in a light shade.
If we would be lucky to win this competition, I’m sure that Annelie Johansson could take some pictures that capture the moment, the feeling and soul. And thereby obtaining images that we will cherish for a lifetime!
What an amazing opportunity, this is really a competition we would love to win! We both like Annelie’s style, and would love for her to capture our special day.
My boyfriend and I will be getting married 4th of August 2012. The ceremony will be held in a quite small, but adorable, little church in Sætre, just outside Oslo. On this date it will be almost 8 years since we met in a small Spanish town, were we studied premed for a year. The church suits us perfectly, because it looks like a coastal Swedish church. The groom’s father is originally from Sweden, so there will be quite a few relatives travelling from Stockholm and Strømstad.
We are newly graduated doctors. We studied abroad, in Slovakia, and so we just moved back to Norway this summer. The Norwegian church is stationed abroad, and in countries where there are Norwegian students, there’s a priest who will come if something were to happen. But the fun part is that this priest will usually also join in on fun events, to get to know the students. Our priest, Tim Georg, has joined in on everything from Christmas parties, 17.mai celebration to student congresses. This way we have gotten to know him over the last years, and we are so happy that he will be the one to marry us.
Our wedding is still in planning, but since we’ve been engaged for almost a year already, we have a clear idea on how it will be. My boyfriend proposed to me in a fairytale castle in the High Tatras (Slovakia) on his birthday 17.March. The amazing scenery in and around this hotel has naturally influenced the planning of our wedding day. So don’t be surprised if there will be a little bit of fairytale in between……
The party will be in a large tent on the farm were my boyfriend’s father, stepmom and their three children are living. We also lived there last year, while we were doing our rotations in a hospital nearby. It’s a beautiful place with a view over the oslofjord, they have a lot of horses, and even a small golf court. We are planning to arrange games for the guests to play in the time between the ceremony and the dinnerparty.
The bride (me) is obsessed with Pretty Chic Blog! I found it the day after we got engaged, and I’ve visited it every day since…… This is strange, since I had never before entered a blog in my life. But I love the photos, the stories and all the inspiration! Needless to say the décor will be influenced by these amazing pages. We are going for a rustic romantic vibe with a dash of fairytale, it will be on a farm and we have invited quite a few guests (100), so it will be a relaxed village fete inspired party. And man can we party! All our family and friends are fun and easygoing people, so we are quite certain that our live band will keep the crowd jumping, and that the party will go on to early morning.
What will make our wedding special?
Well:
-The groom will be wearing a Bunad (a traditional Norwegian costume). His brocade vest will be in dark red according to the wedding tradition in Hallingdal were his moms family is from. The bride will wear a dream of a vintage inspired dress covered in lace. To keep warm in the crisp Norwegian night, I will later put on a fabulous knitted jacked from Cecilie Melli.
-The priest is a friend of ours, who has followed us closely during 6 years of medical school
-It will be a family oriented affair with a lot of DIY details. We both have divorced parents who have remarried, and they are all pitching in and helping us with everything. They are working together to make this the most special day of our lives, and we couldn’t be happier. Also my sister, my half sisters and my boyfriend’s half sisters will be bridesmaids.
-It’s a farm wedding with a great scenery, horses, lots of games and even a golf court.
-We have lived together in Spain, Slovakia and now in Norway. On the groom’s side, the family is from Norway, Sweden and Germany. We are therefore inspired by the culture and traditions of all these countries, and we will make our wedding reflect us as a couple and also our families.
-We want people to have fun, so it will be relaxed with a lot of good food, drinks and music.
-And of course, it will be magical! The church, the venue, the live band, and last but not least, the people.
We will now cross our fingers, legs and arms :) hoping to win this competition. We can’t think of a better person than Annelie to capture the magical athmosphere and the love that we hope will characterize our wedding.
Wauw.
This is an amazing chance for my sister-in-law and her boyfriend and, soon to be, husband. I love them both very much, and they can not find a photographer who can live up to their hopes, dreams and budget. Me, my boyfriend (the bride’s little brother), their other brother and his girlfriend, and the groom’s sister have been everywhere, both with professionals as well as amateurs, to find a suiting photographer, but nobody has either the right prize or skills to help out. We would love t give this as the ultimate wedding gift for the young couple.
Christian and Kathrine are 25 and 26 years old. Together they have a little daughter, Clara, only 2 years old. They’ve been through a lot, both exciting, beautiful and horrible things, and last spring Christian asked Kathrine to marry him while they went strolling with baby Clara. They reached a small, quiet place in the forest, where Christian askes Kathrine to check on the baby in the trolly. When she turned around – the he was on his knees with the ring in his hand and the ultimate question: would she marry him? We know the answer.
I don’t know much about theme, colours, table planning and so on for the wedding, because I’m not one of the coordinaters – not officially, anyway. But I know this:
The wedding will be very traditional, as Christian is in the army. He is a Sergeant and has been to Afghanistan. This is something he is both proud of and which is a big part of him as a person. He wanted the right kind of suit for the occasion and has had a red kind of tuxedo handmade for the occasion. Kathrine has had her gown made with her mother’s help, and the color is – from what I’ve heard – cream.
It will all take place first in a church with an open view to the southern coast of Sjælland and the water, a beautiful place nearby the couple’s parents houses, and thereafter at an estate called Rosenfeldt, a beautiful old place not far away from the church, with a main building made from red bricks and adjacent red and yellow houses. Inside the banquet room there are exposed beams and a feeling of ancient times and romance.
Kathrine told me that her biggest wish is for everyone to have a great time, laugh and eat and drink until they burst.
I have been scrolling through numerous wedding blogs, ideas and websites to get inspiration on how to create small but well planned and placed surprises to make them happy and laugh. I know it will be a day of warmth, love and happiness.
Lots and lots of small secret features will see the light this day, March 24th 2012. I do not know everyone of them – not even 1/10 – but surely Annelie will get to know every single one that is worth being photographed.
The reason why I think this should be our gift for the couple is that they deserve it. They don’t know we are looking for a photographer for them, and I would give anything to see their faces, when they realize they have a professional and extremely talented wedding photographer for the entire day. Kathrine is goind to be such a beautiful bride, and she will glow this very day when she is of duty from midwife-studies, motherhood and responsability. Christian will be the most smiling, red-bearded, broad shouldered man on earth, and all these features, dimples, sparkling glasses and beautiful tears, laughs and guests would be perfectly captured by this talented photographer.
I really hope I win this competition on behalf on the unknowing couple.
Sofie
One thing I forgot to mention – this all takes place in the south Sjælland, Denmark.
Hi Elizabeth, Annelie and fellow readers!
Wow what a great competition! and such a fun way to hear about everyone’s special ideas at the same time!
Well I am from Australia and live in Sweden with my Swedish beau. We are getting married 23 February 2012 so rather soon yes and since I recently ordered my beautiful silk dress from Elefteria, it’s all starting to feel very real and exciting (thanks Annia!).
Our wedding will take place on a beautiful beach in Sri Lanka! It was a natural choice for us since we love to travel, love the sun and beaches, it is pretty much half way between both our home countries, and well…we havent been to Sri Lanka yet! We met on a beach in India 7 years ago. We kept in touch over email and decided to meet again one year later for our first date in South Africa. A few more meetups in-between before I found way to Sweden. That was 5 years ago and now we are looking forward to our most special date yet.
We are planning a simple civil wedding ceremony with 30 of our closest friends and family on a deserted beach an hour or so before sunset. A gramophone will play some old music. Then we will ride in a fleet of decorated tuk tuks up into the tea plantations to a strikingly beautiful boutique retreat sitting on top of a hill overlooking fields of tea and a buddhist monastry below. The owner of the retreat is an architect and interior designer so the venue has amazing wow factor. Waiters in traditional costumes will serve welcome drinks. We will eat the reception dinner of local seafood under an open walled pagoda overlooking the forest of tea. We will sing Swedish songs and best friends from each side (acting as toastmasters) will keep the atmosphere fun, relaxed, informal and rustic. After letting off wishing lanterns into the night sky we will dance under the pagoda until the wee hours of the morning.
The funny thing is we are actually searching for a photographer right now. I have my heart set on a photojournalistic style that captures the informal atmosphere and our personalities. So I don’t know how you feel about Sri Lanka Annelie?, but we would be absolutely honoured to have you share our special day with us to take some fantastic photos!
Melaine

Hi Annelie!
First of all, what a tuff crowed of fellow competitors. They all have some amazing plans for their weddings.
After clicking through your portfolio we decided we had to enter this competition. We like your wedding pictures very much but we absolutely fell in love with your style in “Brighton”, “Holland park” and “Portobelt road market” and were thrilled to read that you use a photojournalistic approach which we had in mind for your wedding.
We live in Denmark and met six years ago in a local gym where we talked some time before going on a first date (bowling). Pernille is 26 years old and educated as a graphic designer but is now studding to take a bachelor in Digital design and media. Steffen is 32 years old and work as a carpenter and is a passionate bowling player. We now live in Vanløse near Copenhagen where our wedding will take place. Our thoughts of the perfect wedding for us is not a drop dead gorges location but a wedding nearby our home and our everyday life so we can be reminded of a great celebration of our love every time we pass these places.
Wedding August or start September 2013.
The ceremony will take place by the lake Damhussøen where we have had some really good talks while walking around it and enjoying nature in the city. It is a public place so probably there will be other people at the location too which can only make it better :o)
There will be a reception at the garden where we live and later dinner and party in a rented modern room above your supermarket where there is also a roof terrace.
Our style, is very much “Danish design” sharp and clean lines with a twist. The read thread will be inspired by nature and the surroundings at Damhussøen. For my dress I am inspired very much by Portia’s dress when she married Ellen and Vera Wang’s dresses.
We hope you can follow our concept and ideas and find them interesting and different :o)
Best regards
Pernille and Steffen
(To Elisabeth, thank you for your fantastic blog where I (Pernille) have picked up some great ideas and concept).
On the 19th of May I am going to marry my very best friend and the love of my life.
Right after he proposed (19th of May 2010) and many months after that we discussed if we really should have a traditional wedding with a lot of guests. We both do not like to be in the centre very much… Despite all the thoughts we decided to go for a big wedding and said all or nothing; which means we have now invited 90 of our dearest to celebrate our love.
We dream of a wedding day that is relaxed but still honours our love and the special day we are going to have.
When I found the dress (from swedish designer Tekla)we knew that dots would be a part of the theme for our wedding. The other part is the color red, since our common family name will be Roth, which means red in German.
Oh, I did not mention…our wedding and relationship is bilingual since my husband-to-be is German. We met in Sweden 2005 and he did not move back…
We will get married in Bosjökloster kyrka in Skåne right by Lake Ringsjön and then have a lovely weddingparty in an old barn. We hop to create a fine mix with the style of the barn and a lot of white/red details.
Annelie, I hope to see you on our wedding day!
Oh, this is just an amazing opportunity, off course my fiance and I have to enter this competition!
My boyfriend Magnus and I are getting married this summer, the 21st of july, in Kivik -Österlen- Sweden. We have been together for 7 years and also have our beautiful and very funny 1,5 year old daughter.
I think our wedding day will be the most fun and amazing day! We are inviting around 65 friends and family (only our closest family, the rest is our “extended family” i.e our friends!), and kids are more than welcome so Im guessing there will be at least 15 happy (hopefully! haha) kids making the day even more fun. My family is spread around the world – so the wedding will be a happy reunion for us. I have one brother living in Japan (with his wife and three supercute kids), and one brother living in Spain (with his wife and cutiepie son -and a second on the way!), and its been 4 years since the whole family was all together last!
Magnus’ family, as well as mine, are from Småland, but we have decided to have the wedding in beautiful Österlen because we live in Skåne since many years, and just love that part of Sweden. My parents have a summer house in Kivik, and their garden will be the place for the wedding party. We are thinking of having the ceremony (a civil ceremony) at Stenshuvud, a national park close to Kivik. After the ceremony, which I imagine will be serene in the middle of nature, we will all head to the garden party.
This is the part were most of my thoughts are right now (well, Magnus thoughts as well off course, but he is nice enough to let me go a bit wild with this..). I am a sucker for creating -sewing, building, painting, remake, interior design etc, etc – and at the party that will definatelly show. The party will have: lots of twinkling lamps, candles, flowers my mum and I will grow in the garden, flags from old vintage fabic, odd plates and cuttlery that we have been collecting at flea markets, a lounge area with old second hand sofas, a fun photo booth, lots of music, and lovely apple trees. We are simply gonna take all the best bits and pieces from weddings we are inspired by! Mostely wedding blogs from the US, thats why it is SO refreshing to read a REALLY good scandinavian blog that understands that not all brides and grooms dream of that typical, traditional wedding.
Our wedding will be pretty budget but mainly because thats how we want it to be, relaxed and non-conventional, so to hire a photographer for a whole day wouldnt really be possible for us. Therefor, winning this would be a DREAM.
Annelie, hope to see you on the 21st of July! Your pictures are simply stunning.
Love,
Tina & Magnus
This wedding will take you on a trip from the beautiful ”södershöjder” on a one hour boattrip to a fantastic party in an old oak park. Theme is: love, laughs, colour, lily of the valley, ballons and friends.
Me and my girlfriend will be getting married 9th of June 2012. We will ”put our bags together” in Södermalm, Stockholm, Sweden. In a beautiful church she (hopefully) will say yes to me infront of 90 people. Our two kids and their six cousins will follow us in colourfull clothes. There will be singing, flowers anf beautiful words. After that our guests will walk down to Slussen to a waiting boat that will take them on a one hour trip along Edsviken. The party will be held in a big nice place with big windows surrounded by oaks, chandeliers and round table. After dinner a band will play all our songs untill dawn….
Snapshots in words:
…The gravel crunches under his feet and he vaguely registers the chattering of guests in different languages – some of which are familiar to him, some still ring strangely in his ears. As he walks the fifty paces to the heavy wooden door of the old village church, he looks down pensively and count his steps. He is nervous, that is why he is counting, or not nervous just anxious to get on with it. The day is a beautiful Danish summers day – not warm – and it was raining in the morning – but now there is nothing but a thin shroud of clouds covering the sky – like a veil, letting the sun through with a hazy and soft diffuse light. He is tall and well built with fair skin and green eyes that sparkle as he squints to peer through the sunlight at the faces of his guests on the steps of the church. He smiles – a warm soft smile…
…
…7 ½ years earlier somewhere between Boulevard Menilmontant and Rue de Nanettes – Paris. Late at night or very early in the morning something stirs.
“I don’t smell it anymore” she says – Her nose wrinkles in little v shaped folds as she leans her head back, expands her nostrils and sniffs the night air attentively.
“Sure.. it was here just a minute ago – we just need to find it again – there’s bound to be one” He replies reassuringly, but in his head thoughts are forming tumultuous clouds. What if they won’t find one? Will she just go home? What happens when it gets light? And what are the opening hours of Parisian bakeries actually? He would like this night to never end, to just wander like this with her always and quite frankly he would use any excuse, even one as silly as sniffing their way to a bakery with fresh croissants as a pretext. Then suddenly a sweet buttery scent penetrates his nostrils.
“There it is!” she exclaims excitedly. They run towards it and in the thrill of the moment she grabs his hand…
…
…The old fisherman’s cottage with the thatched roof, white lime washed walls and green paned windows is where she spent all of her childhood summers, chasing crabs, splashing in the shallow water or safely tucked up inside right behind the green windows gazing out over the sea and the lead coloured sky, counting lightning during spells of bad weather. She is standing in front of the house wearing a long ivory dress, that hugs her slender frame around the bust and the waist from where the skirt cascades down in layers of fluid silk chiffon trailing after her. She looks fresh, sunkissed and completely at ease…
…
…An airport off to the side where you go through security. She has said goodbye to him so many times that she can’t count them, and every time it is the same pain, the same insecurity.
“When will I see you again?”
“It won’t be long” he lies comfortingly ”New York really is only across the ocean – you know just on the other side of the world. We’ll skype and it won’t feel like I’m far away at all.” He is determined to be cheerful and his smile is contagious.
“Off you go then…” she replies smiling and he kisses her passionately, and walks away. On the other side of security he turns around, forms a heart with his hands and blows her a quick kiss…
…
… And here they are married after years and years of partings, travels and having lived together in five different countries. In the backyard of the summerhouse there is an enormous white tent that looks like something in between a visiting circus and sailing boats. The tables are decorated with mussel shells, driftwood, lavender and white French lace. The old garden is lit with hundreds of little lanterns forming a ceiling of light under the sky that is changing hue from pale blue to a deep star speckled midnight tone as the evening advances.
“Are you ready?” he asks as he holds her tight before they start their first dance. She smiles as the tones of a lonely trumpet starts playing Coney Island Baby and Tom Waits’ rugged voice adds an unexpected and odd sort of solemn beauty to the scene…
About us: Inger is Danish and Avron is Irish. We met in Paris in 2004 and have been together ever since, although we have traversed the Atlantic ocean and a couple of other ones to see each other. Our wedding will be a very international one with people from all over. Inger is an academic and has studied literature, design and architecture and Avron works in business development, is passionate about international politics and finance, but also believes that deep down he is a painter – who has just never had the chance to paint.
Such amazing story….just wondering when your wedding day is?
I wish you good luck in this competition!

Hi Elizabeth and Annelie
Thanks a lot for this opportunity. Annelie – your pictures are amazing and would be a most wonderful memory from our wedding.
On April 14th 2012 we will get married in a small charming church near my parents house. We will pass though the green fields of Zealand to the old barn of a restored manor, where the party will be held. The wooden and rustic barn will be decorated with newly sprouted branches and wild flowers. There are 30 feet to the ceiling and colorful bunting will be hanging from the rafters.
Roughly 100 of our best friends and family will be gathered to celebrate and dance the night away to a great live band. We’ve known each other for six years and have been traveling to many parts of the world together, so guests are also coming from near and far. Tais has friendly brown eyes and Anne Mette long red hair. We keep our fingers crossed to see Annelie on our big day.
Love,
Tais and Anne Mette
