To me, this year’s autumn seems to have passed by in the blink of an eye! The summer stretched into a gorgeous Indian Summer… and suddenly, it seems, the shops were already decorated with Christmas decorations. Or is it just me? I must admit, I might have been rather occupied by a cute little one, to really think about or notice the autumn days. So while everyone else is creating the final touches on the advent calendars and lighting candles, I really want to hold on to the wonderful autumn crispness that I feel that I have missed out on.

So it’s nice with an inspiration shoot which makes me feel the autumn atmosphere, at least virtually. To me, the autumn season has always had something vintagey about it. I think it’s the yellowing leaves and subdued tones that remind me of old polaroids and fading book pages and maps.

I like this shoot, because it shows how little it takes to create a vintage look with a couple of details – an embroidered chair, a violin – and there is something Old World classy about horses. Of course, horses are one of the more difficult props to incorporate into a wedding, but if you’re a horse girl, a bridal portrait together with horses is such a unique idea.

It looks like this is German vintage week, as I have yet another set of very lovely pictures to share with you. This time we’re in a different kind of vintage – flowery, romantic and just delicious through and through. This inspiration shoot serves to reflect the style of the photographers – Angelika and Artur, who are based in Germany but will travel around the world to do what they love. We love the details with the old vintage keys, the lace gown and all the little details which were created by Angelika’s talented and style savvy mum :) I personally alos love the idea of the streamers as such an easy way to infuse some play of colour; the sheer tent and the general, relaxed atmosphere of this shoot.

Today’s post is short and sweet, and very reflective of the autumn weather which is not far from now.

I know that I focus on weddings from the Nordic countries on my blog, but once in a while, a set of photographs finds their way into my inbox which just make my heart flutter, and I just can’t help but share. The photographer, Neda Rajabi from Cargo Collective  (with the adorable blog, Started With A Kiss) has an eclectic style which is infused with the influence from being raised in Germany but also having lived in Iran, Denmark and India. The lovely couple in these photographs is French, and were photographed in Berlin as a pre-wedding shoot before having their countryside wedding in France.

I simply can’t get over the couple’s funky style, and the fun and romantic, cosy, autumn vibe in these pictures. Everything is just more cheerful with a handful of billy buttons in one hand and yellow balloons in the other, right?

I often hear photographers and brides speak of the gorgeous light in photographs which we see in Californian weddings, and many dream of having photographs in the buttery, golden light… but really, sometimes the soft, late afternoon light in Scandinavia is hard to beat, and in the summer, we get the opportunity to experience this until the very late evening hours. I’m a sucker for photography in golden light, like the pictures you see right here. Dash in a really sweet concept for the shoot – a magical tea party reminiscent of the Mad Hatter’s party in Wonderland. An adorable couple and simple props – delicious cake and cupcakes, a turquoise chair and a simple table setting for an intimate party for two.

A couple of words from Karin Froom, who captured the lovely couple and the beautiful light:

On their wedding day, 2 years after our first shoot together, I met up with Marianne and Andreas Lamberth again. We wanted to do something out of the ordinary, and since I´m a real farmer girl at heart with a weakness for cakes we decided to combine those two. Cake, sun and cows, come on… that’s heaven (unfortunately the cows were less than impressed and decided to stroll away after a while)!

It was really a bliss photographing this lovely couple again, and if it wasn’t for the fact that they live in another country, I would probably beg them for a photo shoot every other week.

Congratulations on your 2 years wedding anniversary, Marianne and Andreas! We hope for many more anniversary shoots! :)

So, I bet you can’t wait to see the details of the Icelandic wedding featured earlier… well, you are really in for some inspiration! The burlap, the books, the whole eclectic look which comes from mismatching elements… oh, look at this:

Books as the centerpiece for the programs laid out on a table with burlap throw and cute vases of baby’s breath… a stamped ‘Ceremony’ sign and a simple arrow made of twine… the mismatched chairs at the ceremony area…

We don’t really use escort cards so much in Scandinavia, but I really find this idea very adorable. When guests arrive to the seating area, the guests pick up a tag from the trinket, and then find their seat by matching their card with the place card on the plates. So, for Christina, her escort card says “I love…” and then the corresponding tag finishes off the sentence with “Mark”. Very cure, no?

And now, please forgive me as I overdose you on pictures of the tablescape – I so love this look! The mix ‘n’ matched plates and vintage napkins, the placecards with the scrabble tiles, domino tiles and vintage keys, the burlap runners… Seeing this all together just highlights how great this looks once it all comes together…

So, after all these great little details, how would the invitations look for such a wedding, I hear you ask? Weeeeell… that’s on it’s way! (or, you can just check out the the gallery right here!)

Let me introduce you to a very talented lady, if you haven’t met her already - Madelin Downey from Downey’s Blomster & Jazz. You saw some of her work in the vintage winter wedding inspiration shoot, but also in the previously featured wedding by Small Pig Art. Madelin is a stylist, florist and entertainer with a passion for everything vintage – specifically she loves the 1940s era, but styles and creates anything from between the 1920s to the 1960s. Not only does she create beautiful flower decorations and bouquets (see her blog, Vintage Blomster in Swedish), but she styles hair and clothes and anything in between - and also knows how to entertain with jazz music! Together with her colleague Maria, Belleville Dekor even offer full blown wedding decorating in vintage style – tablescapes, invitations, flowers.

You have to love a wedding infused with 1940s glamour. Anna Roström from Small Pig Art was so kind to share her photos from the wedding day in this post, where we followed Anna Karin and Daniel throughout the beautiful day… now, it’s time for the beautiful portraits taken at cinema Bio Rio and Stockholm city. I absolutely love the “Today’s Program” sign!

The streets of Stockholm serve as a beautiful backdrop for a Parisian styled wedding portrait photo, don’t you think?

Black and white movies and red lipstick – this wedding is absolutely gorgeous and a dream come true for any bride who dreams of a glamorous, 1940s era inspired wedding with a Parisian atmosphere. The exquisite photography is by Anna Roström of Small Pig Art and the styling – flowers, makeup and hairwere done impeccably by Madelin Downey of Downey Jazz och Blomster.

The bride got ready at Madelin’s own salon, and these are the shots from the preparations:

You can’t go wrong with black and white anemones for a winter wedding, can you? Together by white ostrich feathers, ranunculus, alstromeria, roses and chrysantemum, bound in black satin and organza ribbons it couldn’t look any more glamorous and vintage, yet with a contemporary twist.

The hairstyle was done up with a vintage brooch and white ostrich feathers, and on top of the custom made wedding dress, she wore a vintage fur stola to keep her warm.

The ceremony was held at the beautiful Katarina Church in Stockholm… You have to love the sound of classical guitars at ceremonies… I know that I do, at least…

I couldn’t imagine tossing anything more right than red rose petals at this couple… 

Oh no, this wasn’t all – next up is the Paris-inspired portrait session, featuring a cinema for location!! Coming up in just a bit!

The shoe shot! We’re off to a great start, don’t you think?

This classically beautiful bride had a romantic garden wedding in the north of Sealand, Denmark in her parents-in-law’s backyard. Christine loves the vintage style and DIY, and she was so kind to tell us about the planning process and details… So let’s leave the word to the bride, the lovely Christine, shall we?

I’ll start off by telling that Christian and I have now known each other for 9 years, where we met in high school. After high school we became a couple, and had been for 7 years on the day that Christian proposed. At that moment, I entered a small, pink bubble where there was basically only space for one thing: planning our upcoming wedding.

I was really excited about hunting for the dress. I had driven by House of Brides many times, so it was natural that this would be the first place for me to start searching for dresses. I have read many different reviews about House of Brides, but I would say that all of my experiences in there were positive. I described what I was looking for to the girl who was tending the salon. She quickly found 3 dresses, one of which was The One, and gave me that famous feeling that I had heard about while standing in front of the mirror. The dress is Blue by Enzoani, the Brazil model from the 2009 collection. So the dress was actually found at first try, which I absolutely hadn’t expected.

It was quite a bit harder to find the right shoes. I had searched on the web a lot and was actually sure that i would end up with a pair of Christian Louboutins which I had fallen in love with on the web. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find them here in Denmark, and wasn’t prepared to buy them on the web. Again, it was by chance that I found The Shoes, on a trip to Magasin. They were right in front of me, on a pedistal, with high heals, a slight plateau in the front and an amazing jewel at the front. At first I thought they were too flashy, which was actually the reason why I reached for them. But as I stood there with them in my hand, I started fallin in love with them, the shoes went on, and I was sold. The shoes are from the English brand Dune. They make a couple of bridal collections, all of which are quite flashy, so they’re not for the mimimalistic kind. But I think that this was the reason why I ended up choosing these shoes, as I don’t like to wear too much jewelry and so I felt it was right to have a bit of extra ‘bling’ on the shoes.

We had always known that we wanted to get married at Hørsholm Church. Most of those who get married will say that their church is the most beautiful one, and I believe that Hørsholm Church is among the most beautiful ones in Denmark, which is surrounded by lakes and woods. So the church was the first part step which was in place, and decided on a date where we would know for sure that everyone we knew would be back from their summer holidays – the 28th of August.

Photography during the ceremony in the church wasn’t allowed – I do think that this shot above, taken through the keyhole turned out rather well, don’t you?

The next step was finding the venue for our wedding reception. I personally feel that the best weddings that we had been to as guests, were the intimate ones, and where the venues reflected this intimacy. This, combined with my love for the Shabby Chic style, a bit of lounge inspiration and my DIY gene, meant that a garden wedding was the natural choice.

Christian’s parents have a summer house in Hornbæk where we have spent many hours together, so this was a place which was already connected with many lovely memories. The garden has a huge grass lawn, surrounded by an ocean of rhododendrons – in short, these surroundings were exactly right for our dream wedding, and the perfect place to have our reception.

And then there was, of course, our photographer. After having looked through so many American blogs, I had set my mind on having a photographer for the whole day, so that I could remember the details later on, but also so that I could show them to Christian afterwards. Carsten Thamdrup was recommended by a colleague of mine. We started by inviting Carsten to our home. Carsten felt that it was important to meet each other face to face, so that we could get to know each other and we would feel relaxed on the day of our wedding. Carsten showed us a number of his own pictures he had taken from weddings and I shared some inspiration pictures I had found on the web to describe the style that I wanted. After looking at the pictures, we had our next meeting. Carsten suggested meeting up 1 month before at the same place that we wanted to have our portraits taken and at the same time of the day as the wedding. This was a great experience, as on this ‘test day’ we had plenty of time to try out the location. We had lots of ideas for the images, and on this day we found out what worked and what didn’t, where the lighting was best because of the shadows (which is why we met up at the same time of the day as the wedding day). Besides this, it was great to to have some pictures taken on this day, as we had the opportunity to get used to being photographed (we are both quite camera shy). So on our wedding day, we were able to completely relax in front of the camera and this resulted in some genuine smiles.

Choosing Carsten was definitely one of our best decisions, so don’t miss out on him if you are looking for a photographer!

If you’re in doubt as to whether you should invest in a photographer, then I would recommend that you reconsider some of the other things, for example the transport to and from church, as the day passes by so fast that you won’t have the time to take in all the details. I was so happy when looking through our wedding pictures afterwards, seeing all these little details which I hadn’t noticed on the day: the expressions on our guests’ faces before the arrival of the bride, the flower decorations inside the church (I only had eyes for one thing when I stepped into the church! :) ) and so many more things. And it’s hard not to smile when you look through the pictures a hundredth time, almost a year after the wedding.

And now, for the details, photographed by Jesper Dam Jensen:

Once our colour scheme was chosen: peach, purple and black – it was time to start shopping in the garden centers, where my mother in law found the most beautiful roses in different peach shades, which were planted all over the garden and in big planting pots on the terrace. Inspired by the many blogs which I was reading up until my wedding, we set up games in the garden; petanque, croquet and a huge mikado. We created a little ‘lounge area’ with low benches and cushions, and small café tables and chairs on the terrace.

Over the summer, I visited many flea markets, where I collected many candle sticks and small vases in mercury glass. They were placed in little arrangements on all café and lounge tables with candles and mixed, loose flowers in tall and short, wide and thin vases – all flowers of course with colours in our wedding palette. I had also found som beautiful old books in pretty peach and coral with gold leaf print, which we had placed on the tables as decorations, as well as picture frames with beautiful images.

I had also visited our local recycling depot quite a number of times, and was excited to see how many people throw away their lanterns. So over the summer I had collected 50 to 60 lanterns which were placed along the edge of the whole garden in little groups, to create beautiful ocean of light in the evening. All of this gave us the romantic, vintage look which I was going for. It was great to see all the bits and pieces that I had collected for months, all come together as one. It’s quite special to have a little story connected to every single vase and glass which had been selected for the wedding.

The tents had been decorated with Martha Stewart’s pompoms. The were attached to long strings so that they hung from the center and out to the sides of the tent in pretty peach and purple colours. Parallel to these we hung fairy lights – not too many, as we wanted to be sure that there would be an intimate and toned down lighting in the evening. I had painted a big, pretty old picture frame peach and used this for the table plan which hung at the entrance.

We wanted to start by sitting traditionally with our parents and closest family, but it was also important to us to be able to enoy our day with our friends. So between first and second course, and then the second course and dessert, there was a short shift (which went surprisingly well and which I would suggest others try if you want to party together with friends). The older generation only moved once, while the younger guests moved twice, and this worked great for both us and the guests.

Inside the tents there were big, round tables with place for 10 people, each decorated with a big lantern in the middle, which were used as table numbers, surrounded by a couple of small and medium sized vases and small candle and tealight holders.

The placecards were butterflies, inspired by Timeless Paper – Christian has always been interested in butterflies and orchids, so it was quite natural to include this element. We built a bar which was tended by one of my friends. We had of course made a personal drinks menu, which was made in the same style as the table overview, but with a black frame and coral background with the personal drinks names. Next to the bar I had placed an old suitcase which I had – of course – painted peach. Inside were 30 black throws, which the guests could use to keep warm throughout the evening if it would turn cold.

It was absolutely the right choice to have the wedding somewhere which we all knew very well, this meant that we could completely relax on the day of the wedding – if anything should go wrong, well, we were home and would quickly be able to fix whatever it was that needed fixing.

It is so great whenever we go back up there, to have this big experience as a memory attached to the summer house. The guests already knew the place and were quickly captivated by the atmosphere there, so it was relaxed and cosy from the first moment that they arrived. This exact atmosphere was one of the most important things for our wedding – that it was intimate and cosy and that everyone had a good time – but of course also all of the little details, which made this into the most fantastic wedding we could dream of.

Happy Monday all! I have a lovely set of pictures from a Norwegian wedding for you today. I love how these pictures, captured by Ruben Hestholm really display the couple’s fun personality – with the help from a beautiful location and attire, adorable flower girls and simple props like lollipops and a ‘love’ banner. A few words from the photographers:

This young, beautiful – and very much in love – couple wanted a playful and relaxed expression in their wedding photos. The pictures were taken in beautiful “Gamle Stavanger” in June. Stavanger is a modern “oil capital” in Norway – and the environment in the pictures are from an old part of the city of Stavanger. The streets in this section are narrow and there are many beautiful old houses.

The bride’s dress is from Novia D’Art. It gives a hint of 50s/60s decade. The stylish shoes are from Miu Miu. The bridal bouquet is made from white chrysanthemum, and was delivered by a local flowershop “Blomst”. The groom’s suit in blue and sailing shoes emphasize the relaxed and casual style.

I hope the weather is as beautiful where you are as where I am!

Phew, it’s been a tough week! With deadlines and challenges at work – all of which needed to be done and solved before Friday, which was a bank holiday here in Denmark. Come Friday, I was exhausted and had a headache and the only thing that felt right was to take a day offline - which is why my sneak peak for next week this time arrives on a Sunday. The shops were closed on Friday, we had no plans, and it was fantastic for once to experience the world stop for a day, and lie in, breathe in, breathe out, take a step back and think in the grander scheme of things and priorities.

I tell you – my day job and working this blog at the same time is *hard work*. Once in a while I have to stop up like I did on Friday and think about these things; am I taking the right priorities? What is it that makes me jump out of bed every morning? I baffle myself when I realise how many hours I am willing to spend on my blog, and if I were to look at myself from outside, I would probably tell myself that I’m crazy and that I should take it easy. There’s work! A relationship with my husband! A baby on its way! House chores, friends to catch up with and other plans and schemes that I just can’t say no to.

But I’m happy. I’m satisfied. And while I know my husband, family and friends experience me shed a tear once in a while, I know that this is all my choice and that the reason I choose this is because I get so much back from all my hard work.

Latest example: I had the loveliest day with Hazel from Think Photography (who you know from the excellent DIYs and photography) Thursday evening with a sandwich, an ice cream and a walk in the park. While I’m sure I rambled long incoherent sentences with my brain firing in 5 directions at the same time, it was just excellent. I get so excited whenever I meet someone I have met through my little corner of the webworld. When I started my blog, I felt absolutely alone with my interests, and by writing it I was reaching out to find others who appreciated the same details and aesthetics as myself. So it’s so fantastic to experience photographers, designers and readers who all understand me and who I feel are on this journey with me. Who encourage me and teach me so many things that I never would have learnt, who I look up to and can confidently call my friends.

And what is even greater and gets me even more excited, and which means that I keep finding motivation to continue, is knowing that there are so many more fantastic people out there, who are willing to share their gorgeous photography and ideas with me and who have the sweetest personalities.

One of the new photographers I’ll soon be featuring (tomorrow!) is Ruben Hestholm, who took the picture at the top of this post. Doesn’t this bride have the most gorgeous eyes? (Even my husband commented on them). And I know I say this a lot – but I can’t wait to show you the rest of these pictures from this really fun and gorgeous couple. And I’ll assure you that you’ll be inspired for your own portraits!

Ah, enough with the rambling! Hope you have a great and relaxing Sunday. Me, I have a family lunch today which usually involves lots and lots of scrumptious food. I might be working tonight – but I know that it will be fun.

Jeg ved at I elsker smukke detaljer, og jeg skal love for, at jeg har en rigtig god serie her, men masser af DIY detaljer som bruden selv har stået for… detaljerne får I lige om lidt, men tjek lige brudeparrets tøj og tilbehør ud… Jeg elsker brudebuketten her, med sølvblad, dahlia og roser i pastelfarver. Og den flotte gom i gråt jakkesæt og detaljen med det lyserøde slips… Brudens fine Badgley Mischka sko og det spektakulære vintage armbånd.

Bruden har selv designet de smukke kirkehæfter, så de ligner gamle bøger og med forlovelsesbilleder, som også blev fotograferet af Simply Bloom. Sammen med kirkehæfterne lå de fineste vintage lommetørklæder med påtrykt navn og bryllupsdato.

Jeg er vild med blomsterdekorationerne – i et bordlandskab af hvidt, transparenter og pastellyserød lyser blomsterne diskret op med de samme blomster som i brudebuketten; roser og hortensia, sølvblad og vindruer fra vingården hvor brylluppet blev holdt. Vinflaskerne bliver holdt inden for farveskemaet ved at blive pakket ind i lærredsposer, som samtidig fungerer som bordnumre.

En fin gave til gæsterne var samlingen af familiens yndslingsopskrifter – den lille kogebog endnu engang designet af den superdygtige brud.

En rigtig fin måde at markere brudeparrets stole på er at hænge fine guirlander.  Bordplanen blev noteret på en kridttavle, omringet af forlovelsesbilleder af brudeparret.

En enkel guirlande i samme stil som stolepynten indikerer en lækker dessertbuffet med gode, gammeldags fornøjelser - søde sager til damerne og cigarer til mændene… smukt anrettet i smukke glaskrukker og fade

Og til det gennemførte brudepar hører en smuk, vintage bil.

Gorgeous. Hvad hedder det egentlig på dansk? Overskønt? Smukt? Lækkert? … jeg tror nu godt I selv kan finde det rigtige tillægsord til dette inspirationsshoot, som jeg er overlykkelig for at Alicia Swedenborg sendte til mig. Smukt stylet af den svenske Madeline Downey fra Downey Blomster och Jazz, som er noget af en multikunstner – hun har både stylet hår og bundet blomster.

Sammen ønskede de at inspirere og åbne brudeparrenes sind, og vise hvordan man kan gøre sit bryllup anderledes og personligt, her med vintage styling. Lad os se… en vintage brudekjole i helblonde, knaldrøde læber og en gom med hat og butterfly… alt sammen i supersmukt snelandskab. Der er noget helt rent og sprødt og drømmeagtigt i disse billeder, som gør at jeg pludselig godt kan huske hvad det var der gjorde, at jeg en lang overgang troede jeg skulle have et vinterbryllup.

Jeg er ikke den store fan af tiaraer, men jeg under dog den glamourøse brud noget bling. Især synes jeg det hører til, her om vinteren, og glitrende hårpynt i form af spænder og hårbånd som dette fra Untamed Petals er lige noget for mig…

Efteråret er over os, og det konstaterede vi også på vores bryllupsdag. Men det gør mig ikke så meget – nu bliver det tid til dejlige, varme striktrøjer og lag-på-lag, lækre støvler og varme farver… Og af en eller anden grund er denne årstiden, hvor jeg bliver allermest inspireret til at dynge på med masser, og masser af lækre accessories…

Jeg har et eller andet med strik, og jeg har noget med blonder – og for mig er disse hæklede handsker lige den perfekte kombination af blonder og strik. Lige dele vintage, brudeagtige og bohemiske… tilpas elegante og rustikke til bryllupsbrug – uhhhmmmm, ja. Bare lige en uge for sent!

Jeg tror, jeg vil se om ikke jeg kender en, der er glad for at hækle som jeg kan ønske mig dem af til min snart 30 års fødselsdag, det kunne være så skønt… og ellers er der altid Etsy med sine mange, fine hæklede handsker. Jeg skal have et par – det er bare lige med at vælge!
